Snack Healthier

Be honest—junk food tastes good, and more often than not, it is convenient. But the key to snacking better is coming up with healthier options that aren’t boring. When you are noshing on yummy, imaginative, good-for-you treats, you’ll quickly feel better (and probably look better!), which is guaranteed to keep you coming back for more of the same.

Here are some quick and creative suggestions to get you started:

Customized Snack Mix—Combine two of your favorite nuts, two kinds of dried fruit and about a teaspoon of chocolate chips, for a sweet, salty, protein-packed snack.

Make Some Hummus—The chickpeas in hummus are high in fiber, with a low glycemic index, so you will fill up faster. Eat it with raw veggies to boost the healthy factor.

Spiced Up Edamame—Craving something salty and spicy? Try some frozen edamame that you quickly boil and then toss with a little bit of salt, chili powder and red pepper flakes to satisfy your urge.

Baked Sweet Potato Fries—Vitamin A-rich sweet potatoes make a tasty swap for French fries, when you toss them with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and then bake until crispy.

Choco-licious—Craving something sweet? Spread a little chocolate hazelnut spread on a bread cracker and top it with a banana instead of reaching for that favorite candy bar.

When you snack right, it can be a good thing—giving you that extra boost of energy between meals. Opt for picks that include some whole grains, fiber and/or protein to give them staying power, but don’t eat so much that it becomes a meal. When you purge your kitchen and life of junk food, you go a long way to improving the way you live.
