On The Road To Boston Part 5: “BRING ON BOSTON!”

When it comes to being the best, you have to train like the best. BUT, if you don’t have the luxury of time like most of us, you have to do with what you have

and Massage Envy Spa massage therapist Karen Moers is taking advantage of the time given to her as she ramps up to participate in this year’s Boston Marathon. Through the generous support of the Massage Therapy Foundation and the John Hancock Non-Profit Bid Program, Karen is participating in this year’s race on Team Running for Research. We’ve asked her to share her experiences, her sights, her motivations, all in the hopes of inspiring others as she does on a daily basis. This entry sees her tackling one of the most challenging aspects of running a marathon:

ONE WEEK!!!!!!!! AHHH!!! It’s becoming very real and very exciting! Tonight’s run was extremely hot. 84* and 96% humidity. Awful……I thought was going to die. I started early to get an extra 4 miles in. I don’t know if it was the heat or a mental struggle knowing Boston is only a week away, but it was a tough 4 miles. The next 3 with the group were just as bad. It was unbearably hot and uncomfortable. I managed 7 miles at about a 9 min pace. Not bad considering the conditions and how I felt. Diet is going well though. I have learned to pre-make all of my meals. It is hard to ‘cheat’ on a diet if it is already made for you. Rest, fruits, veggies, and vitamin C all week.

1535461_10100560643089023_9053758819723682464_nRegular beach run tonight. As usual, I showed up early to add on a few miles. Weather was cool, 70s, but the wind…holy schmoly… I thought I was running in place at times. Ran with Dave again tonight. He is by far the easiest guy to pace with. Kudos to him for helping me out :) We started kind of slow. We ran towards the wind to start so the wind will be to our backs on the way back. Surprising enough, we managed an 8:30ish pace for 3 miles. Very excited about it. It’s a good confidence booster after Monday night’s run.

10169445_10100562196296383_3284856038550447989_nI attempted some packing last night. Of course, the first thing in my suit case was my running gear. I think I managed to fit almost everything I own in my suit case. This is my first race that I am traveling for. Luckily, my sister called. She went through the rundown of stuff I needed and what I should carry one. “Wear your shoes, or carry them on. If they get lost, you’re going cry.” Good call sis!!!! As a runner, you can pretty much wear whatever and adjust…shoes…for a marathon…not so much. Lol. All set to go…a good friend is watching Chloe, so she’s good to go. Then brunch with a close friend then off to the airport. BOSTON BOUND!!!!

Potluck at work on Friday This killed my diet. LOL!
