Do you think that massages are only for women? Then check out the latest spa trends, because men, more than ever, are including wellness in their weekly routine. According to a 2009 American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) consumer survey, women still receive twice as many massages as men, but the rate of men is on the rise. In 2008, only 12 percent of American men had a massage. The next year that number increased to 18 percent.
So why should men consider regular massage?

3. Lower Blood Pressure—People with normal blood pressure who had a deep-tissue massage for 45 to 60 minutes saw their blood pressure fall according to a study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
4. Relief From Chronic Back Pain—A 2009 meta-analysis in the journal Spine found that common massage techniques could help you relax and trigger an endorphin release that raises your threshold for pain.
5. Improve Athletic Performance— A 2010 study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research regarding massage focused on muscle-tendon junctions, revealed that it could help improve the range of motion, aid in overall performance and recovery in your sport of choice.
So, men, don’t think massage is just a way for your mom, wife or girlfriend to pamper themselves. Massage offers serious health benefits for women AND men. Isn’t it time you found out for yourself?
